Cottonwood Bench Public Art Project

La Veta places a strong value on the sense of community, of honoring its citizens and of preserving thenatural environment for the benefit of all.

When a century old cottonwood tree in our town was cut down for street improvements, the Spanish Peaks Arts Council (SPACe) received permission to appropriate it for artistic use. The base of the tree will be transformed into a bench, with a stylized bird of prey on the hunt.

From start to finish this project will be of, for and by the public. The La Veta School of the Arts (LVSA) and SPACe are collaborating to make this a reality, with the carving being done in the courtyard of LVSA.
